Weekly Devlog #5 - Gathering Storm

Let me reveal you a little secret - never trust yourself.

OK, maybe it’s an obvious fact, but I have a tendency to forget it every time. Last week was supposed to be the most productive one yet. That changed when a new expansion for Civilization was released and some unnamed individual decided to “just check it out”. Fast forward, it’s 6 a.m. in the Monday morning and you’ve got to be at work in 3 hours.

It is at moments such as this one when it really pays off not being the only person in a project. While you might be given in to temptation, your teammates will work diligently, so in the end you could reap all the profit and pretend like you were an essential piece of the puzzle 👌

On an unrelated note, I’m looking for new team members. Last week, Ogotu joined the project as an audio artist. He’s got an awesome style, so I’d recommend you check out his music. Now we have separate people for audio effects and background music, but not a single decent programmer.

Last week our artist, Alien, also worked on improving the walking animations of the main character to make them more fluid, whereas I vowed to improve the code aspect of player movement.

Both of these things still require attention, but I think it’s very important to get it right. As we focus on streamlining the core game, I doubt there will much in terms of new content in the following months unless we get distracted (which we invariably will be).

Thus, the battle against the lack of funds, skills, exposure, motivation and time continues. I might not sound like it, but I genuinely enjoy the process. Here’s hoping for a week without trusting yourself to stop playing “after just one more turn”.

Keep on sinning,
