(Almost) Weekly Devlog #3 - a look back at GGJ
I’ve missed out the previous week’s devlog, as I was participating in Global Game Jam 2019. It’s an annual event, where gamedev enthusiasts and professionals get together to cook up games about a random theme. This year, the theme was “what home means to you”.
My original plan was to prototype some mechanics that could be used in Point & Sin + not worry about not fitting to the theme of the event. While I got extremely lucky with finding team members, I didn’t manage to prototype all the stuff I had planned.
The team had two artists - who were a great pleasure to work with - and me, putting it all together in Unity. The result was “Tale of Ajari” - a short 2D platformer game. It can be found on the GGJ site here. I might publish it on itch.io as well.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with the result. The game controls feel a bit wonky and slippery, but the basics are there. This was my first serious attempt at making an over-the-top badass boss (and hopefully not the last one).
I would like to get back to working on Point & Sin asap, but I am yet to get over my laziness and GGJ. At the very least, I will try to write an update about the project. There have been quite a few developments..
I'll leave you with some spoilers for the boss fight in Tale of Ajari.
Keep on sinning,
Sīmanis
