Version 0.9 Changelog + Devlog
New version of Moonaria is now available on itch and shortly also on Google Play Store!
Here are the main changes on patch 0.9:
- Added game map - upon completing a certain number of floors, a new dungeon is unlocked on the surface of the Moon. Dungeons have varying exp and difficulty scaling and include some new level designs. Currently, there are 5 dungeons.
- Added new music - created by Medniex, you may hear this awesome background track after completing a couple of floors.
- Enemy spawn balance - Wolf and crow enemies can't spawn on the first floor of the first dungeon. Everything else goes.
- Rebalanced enemy stats - it used to be so that stronger enemies have one super jacked stat and everything else is average. Now the stats should be more spread out on average
- Added some new bugs - can't make a new version without these :) From testing, I didn't find anything, particularly gamebreaking, but there are a few minor ones. I will get around to fixing them, someday for sure...
The future of Moonaria is uncertain at the moment. Back in August 2022, I released a paid version of Moonaria on play store and even experimented a bit with paid advertising. I didn't spend much money and saw even less of it paid back, as only a handful of people bought it.
Besides spending small amounts for ads on Reddit, Facebook, and the usual suspects, I also fulfilled a lifelong dream of advertising my work on TV. The ad in question being a 5-second text blurb on an exclusively Latvian country music channel. I have no idea who watches it...
The text blurb says "Buy Moonaria! It can be found on Google Play Store". Here is another recording of the ad - this time with loud developer commentary in the background.
Since publishing Moonaria, I have also given some short "post-mortem" talks, where I go more deeply into the development process. Check it out! (talk starts at 1:40)
Overall, I quite enjoy working on Moonaria. There are a couple of improvements and additions I would love to implement, should destiny permit. That being said, I may spend this year resurrecting an old project - Centurion Rex - or even writing comics.
If you have tried out the game, let me know what you think!
